Florida Evolves

Seems de-evolutists in Florida are providing empirical evidence in support of the currently developing theory that Christianity is Stupid. In an attempt to weaken the the teaching of evolution in the public school system, the Florida board of education actually instituted the teaching of the Theory of Evolution as a core science curriculum in public schools. The were attempting to position evolution as "Just a theory." Thank God!

Side note: I don't think that Christianity is stupid, just most Christians.

On of my fav bands from back in the day is back and touring... unfortunately I missed their shows in California. Anyway they've got a new album out. I guess punk isn't dead. Fucking intelligent, anarchistic, and hardcore as ever... the only punk band to ever write a 20 min song is back and as good as ever. I guess I don't have feel dead because I'm old! Thanks!

Science and Religion #1 1

Posted by altjeringa Wed, 09 Apr 2008 01:06:43 GMT

I don't understand how anybody could imply that discussing Religion is discussing morality and Science is not. To confuse religion with morality is to the same a confusing science with technology. Science is a methodology for discovering and validating truth through empirical experience. Technology can be developed and was for most of human history without Science. Religion is a method of describing reality through metaphor, analogy, and revelation while it makes claims about morality, those claims are often contradictory and vary from religion to religion. As the truth which religion describes is proved invalid by the methodology of science it must be abandoned as the answers which are provided by science are always truer than those provided by religion. First science has circumvented religions metaphysical claims, then is physical claims, now many of it's social claims, next and even to a small degree now are it's moral claims. To participate in a discussion of religion is to talk about our social myths, to participate in a discussion of science is to talk about reality, moral, technological, physical, biological or otherwise. Unfortunately neither our public nor our politicians ( if they want to be elected ) acknowledge this.

This blog is back up. i'll be moving it soon because media temple's grid service sucks as a Rails Container so I'm going both to joyent and to django. Got a great deal on an accelerator.

Not to totally dis Media Temple, their new DV 3.5 is a pretty good set up. I run a couple of them for work. And I'm sure the grid serves flat pages and php just fine.

Anyway, I've moved since my last post. I live in Pasadena and work in Santa Monica now. I work here http://www.ff0000.com . I spend 3 hours a day on the road so I've little time for blogging or much of anything really. LA sucks, you should never move here.

Good night.
